After the SPIE Astronomical Telescopes & Instrumentation conference in Montreal, a few of us went out to see SALT's older twin, the Hobby Eberly Telescope (HET) in West Texas.
We were given a superb all-access tour by Herman Kriel & his team out there - we can't thank you enough for your warm hospitality & for sharing all of this with us!
Their CO2 mirror cleaning process is a real sight to behold - incredibly impressive & more than a bit nerve-wracking for those of us that aren't used to such extraordinary aerial heroics!
We came away from this visit hugely inspired by all the things that can be done to make SALT better & so grateful for all the wonderful contacts - Thank You HET!
