After a couple of years of Zoom Board meetings, we at last managed to get most of the group together in person at the SAAO in Cape Town! Among the attendees were our three new SALT Board members from South Africa: Vanessa McBride, Sharmila Goedhart & Itumeleng Monageng.
The proceedings included a lovely Board dinner at Simon's restaurant at Groot Constantia wine estate.
A subset of the group then did a quick overnight trip to SALT to see the telescope. This was also the opportunity to check out our beautiful new IR spectrograph (NIRWALS), while the instrument is warm & therefore accessible for visitors.
Overall it was a good opportunity to get to see what goes on behind the scenes...
& get a refresher on how all this stuff works!
Although the sky wasn't on best behaviour for astronomy, we were treated to a spectacular sunset - in addition to the wonderful dinner put on by the hostel crew :)
