Getting the tour

Some more eager visitors made their way up to SALT to meet NIR & see what all the instrument team's been up to: namely getting everything ship-shape while anxiously waiting on the delivery of the fibre cable...

Rudi's the SALT Astronomer on duty for the week ahead, Deon's our chief curiosity officer  (masquerading as an all-purpose mechanical engineer) & Malcolm's a returning intern (a rintern, perhaps?) spending a few weeks of the UCT vacation looking into how we might optimise the dome conditioning process at SALT.

Yes - it's really in there!

We also had to admire the very nifty enclosure that Eben's built to house the noisy compressor that keeps the instrument enclosure at -40C.  With the instrument warm it seems to work superbly, but rumour has it it actually does a great job even when the compressor is running...
