Some more eager visitors made their way up to SALT to meet NIR & see what all the instrument team's been up to: namely getting everything ship-shape while anxiously waiting on the delivery of the fibre cable...

Rudi's the SALT Astronomer on duty for the week ahead, Deon's our chief curiosity officer (masquerading as an all-purpose mechanical engineer) & Malcolm's a returning intern (a rintern, perhaps?) spending a few weeks of the UCT vacation looking into how we might optimise the dome conditioning process at SALT.

We also had to admire the very nifty enclosure that Eben's built to house the noisy compressor that keeps the instrument enclosure at -40C. With the instrument warm it seems to work superbly, but rumour has it it actually does a great job even when the compressor is running...
