HRS has been offline for a couple of days to allow Mike & the guys to make the necessary mods to the fibre instrument feed (FIF), so that it can accommodate the NIR fibre cable. They also need to re-map the fibre locations relative to the "magic pixel" of the FIF acquisition camera, a task for which the Point Source Microscope is ideally suited.
Meanwhile, there's an awesome amount of girl power in the SALT control room again this week: from left to right we have SALT Operators Veronica & Thea, SALT Astronomer Liz & then NIR principal investigator Marsha!
& in the background we're growing the next generation or two as well... 😎
